This is a photo from the Mitchell Archives showing the tunnel that went under the railroad tracks and connected farms in Fullarton Township to the Town of Mitchell. The timbers of the tunnel rotted over the years and it is believed that sometime in the late 1960's the tunnel was closed in.
This was a favourite meeting place and hang out for young people and many a teen smoked their first cigarette in the tunnel. If you stand on St. George Street facing south towards the tracks you will be directly in line with the position of the former tunnel. In the winter this hill is a popular toboggan run.
It is a vision of the Trail Committee to someday reproduce the tunnel in order that the trail would not have to cross over the tracks but rather under them.
