Dave Brown reported a NEW species to add to our Bird Checklist, the "Hudsonian Godwit", a spectacular shorebird that stands 40 cm tall. There were 6 spotted on one day and at least 3 of them stayed for about three days. This is the first sighting he can ever remember for this area in the time he's been here in Mitchell. It drew a pretty good crowd of birders to check them out and get some pics.
Good news.... one of the birders that replied to
the Birder
Poll, photographer Peeter
Musta from Kitchener, offered a great shot of the Hudsonian Godwits that he got at the
WP wetlands.
This is a very uncommon species. Dave Brown talked with the keeper of bird
sighting records for this region and found out there have been only 4 previous
sightings with the oldest going back to 1973 and the last time was 1988 here in
Mitchell... 20 years ago!!
