Dave Brown recently managed to poll all the birders that use the ONTBIRDS
listserver across Ontario (some 1200 or so) and got great responses. Many of those
that replied to
Dave's inquiry made a point of mentioning that they bought gas in town or hit one of
the local food establishments (Tim Horton's was mentioned many times!! surprise
surprise!)
He has since consolidated all their visits into a spreadsheet and came up with the
following information which should prove useful for West Perth Council and
the E&E
meeting discussions. Keep in mind that the individuals counted here are birders visiting for
2008 only. Many of these same folks have been visiting the site for many
years and are looking forward to many more. This of course also does not include
the many other folks that just like to use the area and trail for a walk. :)
| Total Visitors: | 117 | |
| Total Visits: | 384 | Note: that this is an "by individual" total, some folks came as a group, see below |
| Total Organized group visits: | 5 | including Field Naturalists groups from Stratford, Owen Sound, Guelph, Kitchener - Waterloo, McIllwraith (London) |
| Total Cities / Towns: | 26 | including Ottawa, Toronto, Markdale, Thornhill, Burlington, St. Thomas, Wasaga Beach, Southampton and many more |
Pretty much everyone that replied wished to pass along their thanks to the committee and council for the foresight in creating such a great birding location. Dave is considering posting all these replies to the guest book on the WPTNT website.
